The Thornton Family Foundation exists to support causes important to the late Frances Lee Thornton: combatting hunger, supporting animal welfare, and addressing issues of unequal access to educational opportunities.

Frances Lee Thornton created family in all parts of her life as a beloved family member, committed journalist, devoted educator, and long-standing philanthropist. In that sense, those who knew Lee (also affectionately called Dr. T and Frances) were connected to her. The space she created in her heart for family, friends, colleagues, students, and animals was palpable--an indelible impact founded in love and service.

The Thornton Walk & Wag represents one of the Foundation's three pillars, supporting animal welfare.

The Thornton Family Foundation is committed to:

• Conducting and supporting efforts to rescue domesticated animals;

• Supporting efforts to provide health and care for animals; and

• Assisting and supporting efforts to enable the adoption of animals into caring homes and families.
